Year 7 and 8 Curriculum Overview

Year 7 and 8 students come to Clairvaux MacKillop College from a variety of primary schools. The students are introduced to some new subjects that they have not experienced previously.
 
All students are required to study core subjects in both Year 7 and 8.  This includes: English, Health and Physical Education, HumanitiesJapaneseMathematics, Religious Education​ and Science for the duration of each school year.  Students study Semester Long subjects from the Australian Curriculum in the areas of The Arts and Technologies. This provides them with the opportunity​ to study a range of subjects that they may wish to pursue in the future.           resize science.jpg                ​

​​Year 7 and 8 Australian Curriculum - The Arts

DANCE

In Year 7/8 Dance we learn movement from different genres including Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre Jazz, and Salsa. We explore the unique learning style and class structure of Dance highlighting the importance of Safe Dance Practice.

Students will participate in practical classes, and work through a booklet about the different genres of dance, as well as devising their own choreography.

 

DRAMA

In Year 7/8 Drama we collaborate to devise, interpret and perform drama.

With a focus on bringing literacy to life, students explore the elements of drama to create dramatic action and meaning.

 

MEDIA ARTS

In Year 7/8 Media Arts we learn how to produce works at an elementary level – using moving image media, digital still photography, and media editing tools to create meaning. Students also employ critique to form opinions about how the media retell events, or how characters and media personalities are crafted to create drama and comedy.

 

MUSIC

In Year 7/8 Music we explore a range of performing and composing activities. Students learn to play the guitar, experiment with sound and compose using music software on computers and iPads.

We listen to a variety of music, then analyse and evaluate how music impacts on the way we interpret our world.

 

VISUAL ARTS

In Year 7/8 Visual Arts we explore a range of painting and drawing techniques culminating in the production of an Artist's Book.

Students learn basic appraising skills by analysing and evaluating an art work using the elements and principles of art and design.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGIES

(Food and Fibre Production)

This subject consists of three learning blocks which include a diverse range of topics and skills-

Food Production – In the Garden – sustainable practices and the home garden.

Food Production- In the Kitchen - basic knowledge and skills required to become safe, thoughtful and discerning consumers of food.

Textiles Fibres– What are they and why do we need them? Including a small practical application task.

 

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES

Join us in Digital Technologies and explore how our digital world works. Discover how our world is connected and begin developing the skills to create your own programs to contribute to our connected world. Learn programming concepts while creating fun computer games.

 

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGIES

(Materials and Technologies)

Year 7/8 Design and Technologies (material and technologies) is focused on using tools and basic woodworking machines safely. Students are exposed to a range of manufacturing techniques used to construct products and use this knowledge to create a sustainable pencil case.
