Welcome to our website and into our community of learners.
Our name “Clairvaux MacKillop” reflects our very proud history. Two separate Colleges – Clairvaux, a Christian Brothers College for Boys (named after St Bernard of Clairvaux) and MacKillop College for girls, established by the Sisters of St Joseph, were unified in the mid 1980s. We are a Secondary College of almost 1200 students from Years 8 to 12. As an Archdiocesan College we operate with the authority of the Brisbane Catholic Education Centre. A dynamic learning community, we offer a unitised curriculum from Year 8 through to Year 10. At Year 10 students consider entering the senior phase of schooling and elect a study pathway relevant to their abilities and future plans. The academic pathway prepares students for tertiary studies after Year 12. The industrial pathway prepares students for work in industry and offers apprenticeships or part-time industry placements worked into their school timetable. Each pathway requires students to be self directed and highly committed to their studies. As well as having a strong work-ethic, students and staff are required to be supportive of the College Mission and live out the values articulated in it. |

Welcome back to a very busy term for all, and especially welcome to all our new students and families who join us for the first time this term.
As many of you would know, this has been one of the busiest holiday periods for the school, with Clairvaux MacKillop College hosting the Confraternity Rugby League and QISSN Netball Carnivals in the first week, and Pray 2010 in the second week. Despite the tremendous hard work needed by the many staff, parents and students involved, it was also a very rewarding and affirming experience for the College community, and for what we can achieve together.

Mornings are cold for Brisbane this season; keeping going day by day through the routine requires effort, but we need to achieve those goals we set for ourselves when days were warmer and the promise of the year lay ahead.
In the way of life that created our College and sustains it, prayer is considered a practical part of the routine that keeps people motivated in their work. This belief was reinforced by the huge conference that was held at the College during the school break. Some highly respected international and Australian speakers confirmed for us once again that prayer offers many real and different forms of assistance to anyone willing to explore its possibilities.

By now most students should have received their Semester 1 Report.
Students who were absent on the last day of Term 2 and have not yet collected theirs are reminded that they need to see the designated member of the Leadership Team with a note explaining the absence. It is necessary with all absences that a phone call is made and a note provided upon returning to school – a phone call is not enough. Students with approved absences from Mrs Keating are not required to provide a note.

Welcome back to Term 3 and congratulations on a wonderful finish to all the excellent activities that ran into the final weeks of Term 2. Our Confraternity boys, QISSN girls and Soccer teams experienced their respective carnivals during the first week of the holidays and enjoyed success. Congratulations and thank you to all the staff and students involved in these three carnivals. They were highly successful and the students represented our College with much enthusiasm, integrity and honour.
Setting Goals for Term 3
At this stage of the year it is important for students to take stock of what they achieved during Semester 1 and to begin making plans for the remainder of the year. Over the holidays you have had time to review your Semester 1 Report and to celebrate your achievements. Now you need to reassess your existing goals and to think about formulating some new goals for Semester 2, which hopefully will enable you to reach your full potential. Along with your parents and your Pastoral Care teacher, I encourage you to turn to page 83 of the College Student Diary and set yourself some specific and realistic goals to be achieved by the end of this term. Remember that to be effective and meaningful, your goals must be achievable and measurable on a timeline with a target date in mind.

Sick Bay Procedures
As the excitement of the ‘Ekka’ draws near, so does the occurrence of students falling ill to what goes hand in hand with the ‘Ekka’; the ‘flu’. In the event of students falling ill at school, they are to inform their teacher/activity supervisor that they are feeling unwell before being directed to the ‘Sick Bay’. The First Aid Officer, or office staff, will assess the severity of the illness when the student presents at the Office. The College staff will then contact a parent for collection of their child if he or she needs to go home. Students are not to contact their parents directly to go home without the College’s prior knowledge through the Office.
