2025 'Girls in STEM & Motorsport Program' Accelerates Forward

Clairvaux MacKillop College drives dynamic and competitive education through bespoke learning and strong university partnerships. By championing critical thinking, creativity, and hands-on experiences, Clairvaux MacKillop College empowers students to excel in STEM, leadership, and specialized industries.

One such program is our 'Girls in STEM & Motorsports.'

Students attended the highly anticipated launch day, embarking on an incredible journey into motorsport engineering and innovation, enabling students to engage with industry leaders, professional drivers, and engineers at the forefront of Supercars.

The Girls in STEM + Motorsport Program, is an innovative initiative developed by Science on the GO! Griffith University and is supported by Supercars. It aims at inspiring and empowering young women to pursue careers in STEM through the dynamic world of motorsport.

Our students had the privilege of meeting Tim Watsford, Supercars Chief Innovation & Sustainability Officer, legendary driver Craig Lowndes, rising star Bryce Fuller, and GT4 driver Summer Rintoule. Adding to the excitement, they met Romy Mayer, a highly respected female race engineer, who shared valuable insights into the technical aspects of motorsport. Our students also connected with their mentor, Perry Kapper, a veteran motorsport engineer and Supercars Category Technical Director, as they prepare for a hands-on project on tyre strategy for 2025.

Recently our students enjoyed a dynamic, hands-on experience at Griffith University’s Gold Coast Campus, exploring real-world STEM applications through engaging sessions. Griffith University invited our students to present their program’s progress to participating schools, and their thoughtful contributions during the Q&A highlighted their growing expertise and enthusiasm.

Students attended a Supercars 101 session with Hugh Miller, gaining insights into high-performance vehicle engineering, exploring suspension systems, lap-time optimisation, and advanced physics.

A standout session featured psychologist Kasey Lloyd, who empowers women with strategies to navigate challenges and thrive in STEM and motorsport.

Students explored aerodynamics in a hands-on wind tunnel workshop, deepening their STEM understanding and career possibilities.
